My name is Boso, and I’m a blogger.

It’s been 44 days since my last blog post.

I could blame so many things. Since we moved house last May, my commute went from 12 minutes to 1 hour (if there is AVERAGE traffic). By the time I get home, have dinner, put the little one to bed, catch up with email, watch a little TV, I’m exhausted. Not only have I stopped blogging, I don’t read the blogs I used to anymore.

But this is just part of it. To be honest Facebook, and Twitter has been where I’ve been getting my ‘Web 2.0’  fix for a while. It’s easy, it’s quick, and I can do it on the move, with little or no thought.

And Facebook is another reason why I’m blogging less. You see this blog, it’s semi-anonymous. Some readers know who I am, but most of them have never met me before. Facebook on the other hand, I know EVERYONE personally. When I decided to import my blog feed into Facebook, all of a sudden, I realized that these two audiences were very, very different. I could write about a diet I was trying out on my blog, but when that got to Facebook, my whole family knew about that. So, I couldn’t blog about stuff I would normally do.

Anyway, there have been a few things I’ve wanted to blog about, but have never gotten round to it. So, I’m gonna give this another shot.

I’ll try and blog about stuff I’m passionate about. This means loads of :

  • Football
  • Politics (Both Nigerian and UK)
  • Raising my little girl (nothing personal, just share thoughts, tips, etc.)
  • Technology

And whatever pops into my little head. So, let’s see how long I can keep this up for…….

OK, BT have finally connected us back to the internet.

So, we moved into this house on the 26th of April, and finally got internet on the 11th of June.

I’ve been without the web for so long, I’m so used to not having it.

I need to do a lot of work on this blog, I need a new theme, and the blog itself needs to be upgraded. I’m toying with actually backing it up and reinstalling. Which might mean I’ll lose all my pics, then again, I don’t have that many anymore…..

It might just be me, but it looks like my blog is taking longer to load, and even when I’m ‘behind the scenes’ in the admin pages, it is taking significantly longer to load up pages. The home page seems to take a long time to load up the sidebars as well.

I’m not sure what’s going on, but I’m toying with the idea of backing everything up, reinstalling it, and then restoring all the data, and hope that this time, I get it all right and not lose any data.

Finally, on Friday, we were reconnected to the Internet.

One of the things I’ve realised in the last few weeks is how much I depend on the web for a lot of things. Most importantly, a lot of my friends are ‘online only’, so without access to their blogs, or proper access to email or IM, I haven’t heard from a lot of people in weeks.

It’s scary.

I’ve spent the entire weekend ‘catching up’. I’ll start reading all your blogs this week.

It looks like a month is all it takes to lose my readers and online friends (sadly), but hey, I’m back now, and will start blogging regularly again.

Gosh, I haven’t updated this page in AGES. I’ve been so busy with work and family, that I had to put blogging on the back burner. Anyway, here’s a quick update of what has been happening in my life for the last month and a half:

1. We’re HOMEOWNERS !! On the 30th of March, me and Mrs. Boso purchased a 3 bedroom house in a lovely rural setting. We’ll be moving in at the end of April, and I have to say, it’s exciting times !!

2. Baby O is growing up to be a very happy and more importantly HEALTHY baby. After an appointment with a dermatologist on Wednesday, the eczema that has made her life a living hell (and given up several sleepless nights) is FINALLY in remission. For the last six months, my poor daughter has suffered, but hopefully the worst is now behind us. Our GP told us for months that there was nothing a dermatologist would tell us that he wasn’t telling us already, and it was only after she went into anphylatic shock twice over the Christmas period that he referred us to see a specialist, and even then, we went with a private specialist and not on the NHS. Another story, which I hope to tell in greater detail over the coming days.

3. Baby O is becoming a right little chatterbox. Her vocabulary is growing, and over the coming days, I’ll try and post about that as well.

4. My landlord is a devious, scheming, lying, no-good crook. He is trying to hold on to our deposit without giving any concrete reasons. I am doing my best to resolve this amicably, however, if push to comes to shove, he is in breach of recent legislation requiring landlords to pay all deposits into a deposit protection scheme, and as far as I am aware, he has not done so. The penalty would be a fine, he would be required to pay us back 3 times the value of the deposit. If I cannot come to an agreement with him this week, I need to make an application in our local county court. I’m not sure how to do this, or if I need to engage the services of a lawyer, but hope to find out by the end of this week. If anyone reading this knows how I can go about this, please email me ASAP (There is a “Contact Me” link in the top left hand corner of the blog, under navigation). Thanks in advance.

Hope you are all doing well. I may not have been commenting on all your blogs, but believe me, I check them out almost daily.

A while ago, our friends at blogger.com started using OpenID for commenters without Google Accounts. This works fine if you have a wordpress, livejournal or typekey blog, but if like me, you have a self hosted blog, you will have to create an Open ID identity, and link it to your blog.

I have been putting this off for a while now, which meant that either I left comments on blogs without a link back to mine, I left comments using my wordpress blog (which I don’t actually use), or I didn’t leave any comments at all.

Anyway, today, I decided to sort it out once and for all, and it took less than 15 minutes, and now http://boso.me.uk is now a valid OpenID.

First of all you need to sign up for an Open ID at https://www.myopenid.com/

Then you need to claim your blog, there’s a useful tutorial here.

And that’s it !!

Just thought I would share, for anyone else out there who needs to do this.

Happy new year people !!

I changed my web  host this week, and moved my blog over to the new host. To be honest, I have been thinking about doing this for a while, but was afraid of all the data I would lose, like pictures, and the blog design, but since my previous host lost everything all on their own, they pushed me along…….

It’s about the same as what I was paying before, but these new guys (Bluehost) are recommended by wordpress, and have 24/7 support, which I’ve actually used while setting up this whole account.

The strangest thing is that while my nameserver records were being updated, I actually had two blogs, and for a while, it was pretty random which one you saw. At home, I was getting connected to the new one, while at work, I was getting connected to the old one. Sppadic and Calabar Gal both left comments on the old blog, which is now offline, so sorry folks, but thanks for stopping by !!

Now, I’m working on the plugins that power this baby, it took a while for me to find all of them again, but I’ve got all shiny new versions, and it’s a painstaking process of activating them, making sure they don’t break the blog in any way, one by one. Most of the stuff they do can’t be seen by you guys, but you may notice one or two things over the next few days.

After that, I’ll have to rebuild my blogroll, I’ll use my RSS feeds, this will be a good opportunity to remove inactive blogs as well.

Then, it will be time to work on the design, looking for a good theme for the blog that works with my combination of plugins. It will take a few weeks, but hey, it’s fun, and I’m not complaining !!

I think I can start blogging again as well, haven’t been able to do anything sensible in a month, which is a real shame………

Hello friends…

Sadly, my blog has been on sick leave for about 2 weeks.

Due to ‘technical issues’ with my webhost, my blog went missing, and I’ve been fighting tool and nail for them to restore it from a backup. This has now been done, sadly, it appears I’ve lost TONS of data. The blog text is all intact (Thank God), but it seems that all my images are gone, my layout (which took several painful hours to design), my plugins, are all gone.

I guess the good news is that in essence, I’ve got a brand spanking new blog to play with !! But it will take a while, time which sadly, I don’t have too much of at the moment. I’ll try and resolve all technical issues before the end of the week, once that is done, then I’ll start working on the layout again, and searching for, and reinstalling plugins.

I’ll post every now and then while I’m doing this, but I reckon it will be next year before the blog is up and running to my satisfaction.
